Check Out My Review of Dark Town, by Palmer Pickering! The fact that I played - and mastered - a lot of RPG campaigns throughout my life might influence my review of this book, but if you haven’t played, don’t shy away from it. I loved the extremely detailed descriptions of scenes that Palmer Pickering did. She plays with all senses and it makes the story very immersive. It’s also extremely coherent with time and space, and you can see yourself in a medieval countryside setup at all times: through ambiance, dialogue, objects, food, mannerisms, etc. The story flows nicely and it felt like an easy read. Lots of adventures of a female hero called Temerity who, luckily, meets an empowered woman who shakes the idea that women cannot do great things off her. That’s when the adventure begins, guided by a strong mentor, a hobgoblin, who adds a ton of character to the campaign. Definitely a must read for gamers. Lots of cool explanations before the book starts for non-gamers wanting to ven...

Check out my review of Mike Mollman’s Proxima Station. Overall: A laid-back, hilarious, fast-paced and dialogue-heavy walk in the [space] park. Transcript from Picture: Book review, Proxima Station by Mike Mollman. I devoured half of this book during a flight from Seattle to Fort Lauderdale. I need to say I got a signed copy from the author at Seattle WorldCon (envy me, peasants) but that—in no means—affects my rating. This book is hilarious. It's fast paced, full of humor, sarcasm, and a little of—how should I put it?—crazy. The MC is rushed through the process of defending his thesis (or dissertation—you are welcome, UK) because he needs to support Area 51 better understand and categorize a couple of aliens (but don't refer to them like that or else). He is told he will pass and still feels nervous—chef's kiss for relatability. Throughout the adventure, which is dialogue heavy, Mike's creativity flourish and he creates unique species with known names (Yeti, Napoleon, ...
